A late 19th, early 20th century waterline diorama of the steam ship named DARWIN to the bow with painted sky and simulated sea, glazed and cased. An exceptionally good quality model possibly made by a German cottage industry who also made PARIS and ALEXANDRIA. Quality deck fittings throughout with rigging and a figure at the helm of the flying bridge. The lovely lines of this model are partly due to the transition from sail to steam. The sails were kept for an emergency and extra power.
We have one of these models in our living room, only the best of the best do we keep. This model really is exquisite.
It can't be posted but it could be couriered for around £100 depending on where you live in the UK.
Measures 84cm wide x 19cm deep x 41cm high.
