A Spanish pillar dollar recovered from the wreck of the 'Hollandia' sunk in 1743 with previous provenance from DIVEWORK, Scilly Isles.

Of reasonable grade with the legends all legible and the date clearly stamped as 1741. It measures 38mm diameter.

Otherwise known as 'Pieces of Eight' pirate currency. These coins were easily divided into 8 pieces and used to trade with.

The 'Hollandia' sank off the Isles of Scilly on her maiden voyage in 1743 with the loss of all hands. She was carrying a cargo of silver for trading in the Far East. The wreck was discovered in 1971.

The pillar dollar comes with its certificate of authenticity.
