A large brass ships 'Onion' or 'Mushroom' binnacle with lift off covers.  The provenance is that this came from the Ketch 'Clara May' of Braunton built in Plymouth in 1891. An owner was J.B Cornish of Bude.

Set on top of an old barrel and fitted with a drycard compass made by D. McGregor & Co of  Liverpool, Glasgow and Greenock.

The binnacle measures overall diameter 44cm. Hood 37cm x 37cm. Glass 26cm x 17cm. Top cover 21.5cm diam and glass 20cm. Overall height 30cm. The complete item with barrell measures 75cm high. Barrel measures 44cm high x 38cm diameter.
