A green glass bottle stamped with 'LIME JUICE' and the broad arrow mark of the admiralty. In really good condition - signs of wear but no chips or cracks. The underside is also stamped 'AO'.

In all my years in the navy I have never seen one of these.

The benefits of citrus juice in preventing scurvy were observed by James Lind in the 18th century and the disease was almost eliminated from the Royal Navy by 1800. Limes have a higher Vitamin C content than lemons and were more readily available in the Caribbean where the ships were stationed.,
