Heavy bronze cannon with steel reinforcement 8cm back and to the bore.

We think this is an early line throwing cannon where there would have been a rod with a lead end fired from it to another ship. We have seen such projectiles in museums.

The hinged metal end covers the touch hole, maybe a cover or a protection piece?

It is bored all the way through, 3.5cm bore to a depth of 6.5cm then tapering to 2cm.

The cannon is 50cm long x 10cm approx breech end, 8cm muzzle. Across the trunions 16cm.

Height 27cm, total length on carriage and base is 57cm.

Carriage 15.5cm x 40cm x 19cm approx

Base wood 52cm x 28cm.

Weighs 17kgs. Discovered in France.
